Overview:

The Macwester Wight 32ft Ketch, 'Polly Garter', is an early example but none the less is fine fettle. He retiree owner has lavished many hours to provide a very presentable craft. Her spacious 2 cabin accommodation with up to 7 berths and generous headroom is ready for an appreciative new owner. Macwester Marine Ltd was founded in 1964 by C. Roy designing and building a range of family cruising yachts. Their sea kindly hulls were legend and 'Polly Garter' is a fine testament to that. Craft lying with the Broker at Newhaven.

Accommodation Details:

The accommodation is in two separate cabins - one forward, the other aft. Headroom is 6ft. The Cockpit has a traditional pedestal wheel helm with adjacent engine controls. The Cockpit has seating/ lockers. The cockpit floor can be removed to give access to the engine. Forward of the Cockpit, is entry to the accommodation under a blue spray hood. Forward to Port is the Galley fitted with sink with pressurised hot & cold water, a gas cooker with 2 hobs, oven with grill and stowage spaces with sliding fronts. Opposite to Starboard is a table with bench seating facing fore and aft. The table can be lowered to provide a double berth. Forward - to Starboard - is the enclosed Heads compartment with sea-water flushed toilet, hand-basin, shower and some stowage spaces. Opposite - to Port - is a hanging locker. Above, is a hatch which provides ventilation, light and an emergency exit. Ahead, is the Fore cabin - a cabin with two single V-shaped berths (an infill section provides a double-berth). The forward bulkhead has access to the anchor chain and warp fastenings. To the rear of the Cockpit provides entry to the Aft Cabin. Two v-shaped single berths each with stowage space under (an infill section provides a double-berth). The accommodation has easy clean vinyl deck-head covering. The vertical faces of the cabin structure are finished in varnished hardwood. Whilst the sole of the cabins is in timber, with some access points to the bilges, carpeting has also been fitted. A canopy fits over the main mast boom, with additional wooden struts and tensioned by use of the stays. SERVICES: Domestic hot water is by way of a calorifier. The installation of an electric heating coil and shore power connection provides domestic hot water. See layout diagram.

The vessel has a BMC CAPTAIN 4-cylinder diesel engine, rated at approx. 35hp coupled to a reduction gear-box with cockpit engtine control. The engine was removed in 2004 for reconditioning and subsequently reportedly regular servicing. The vessel was rewired professionally in 2017. Sails & Rig

The 'Ketch Rig' comprises Main and Mizzen masts in anodised aluminium with matching booms and stainless steel standing rigging.
Sheets for both the Main and Mizzen are fed to cockpit winches. Halyards fed to the base of their respective masts.
The sail locker includes 2 sets of: Main, Fore-sail and Mizzen. The total sail area is 37.2 sq. metres (400 sq.ft). A Mainsail cover is included. One set (2014) has only been used twice. The other set for light airs is older.
