Hampshire Police Authority (HPA) have taken delivery of their new LOCHIN 367 LAUNCH –‘PREVENTER’ based on the river Hamble, Southampton and to range the Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset coastline. The 11m craft, designed for Lochin by Amgram Ltd and completed by Goodchild Marine Services Ltd of Norfolk has a comprehensive role navigating the busiest waterway in Northern Europe.
The new launch has a maximum speed capability of 27 knots fitted with twin Cummins Mercruiser Quantum QSB5.9 425hp engines conventionally driven through Twin Disc MGX5065A electronic gearboxes with specifically formed ‘tunnels’ to maximise performance and economy of operation. The state-of-the-art Empirbus CanBus electrical system minimises cabling and is fully programmable to meet the demands of a multi-functional vessel installed with significant electronic aids including surveillance, underwater search, overboard recovery, and ROV deployment systems, etc..
‘Preventer’ is one of four new vessels for the HPA investing for the longer term and emphasising key factors which will allow the vessel to adapt to a changing role over time. Capable of carrying up to 10 crew, the 13 tonne Lochin 367 Launch will be used for ship boarding and approaching smaller vessels in conjunction with other agencies such as the UK Border Agency and Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) as well as fulfilling a policing presence in busy Solent and adjacent waters. As her name suggests, ‘Preventer’ will not only remind boat users of a policing presence afloat but also serve the significant tonnage including the cruise ships that navigate to the Southampton terminals.
The Lochin 367 Launch ‘Preventer’ was blessed by the National Police Chaplain, Canon David Wilbraham at a ceremony held at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club in the presence of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston CBE RD which including a South Boats 12m Catamaran ‘Commander’ and two 7.9m Ribcraft high speed RIB’s – ‘Protector’ and ‘Persuer’.
