Overview:

The DEBEN 4 TONNER - a 'blast from the past' Traditional construction at its best represented by her crafted carvel hull (Mahogany or Larch) on oak frames. Internally her Mahogany joinery and period fitments will always be pleasing to the eye. The gaff mainsail and cutter foresails + topsail are a delight to see rigged. A real enthusiasts boat and once you start down this path, the draw of classic boat sailing is infectious. 'Janty' was built in 1939 by the famous Whisstock's yard at Woodbridge, Suffolk and one can imagine she was regularly sailing in eastern estuaries at a time when leisure time was at a premium. The current owner has enjoyed cruising the south coast and usually sails single-handed so she's an easy boat to manage and the relatively new engine is a bonus. She will need some cosmetic improvement over time but you can wrap yourself up in the nostalgia while doing so. Length overall with sprit - 27ft

Broker's Comments

' Just occasionally you get to represent a vessel with absolute charm and you can't help but appreciate the absolute skill of the craftsman that built it. 'Janty' is such a vessel and as you contemplate what this little gem has represented over time, you begin to realise what a talent our boat building industry had in the years gone by. These vessels are irreplaceable and, as boating enthusiasts, we owe it to those shipwrights, craftsman, boat builders, whatever you might call them, to keep them alive.'

Owner's Comments

" Owned since 2015 and sailed regularly throughout the year mainly locally along the south coast. Attended the 'Old Gaffer's Association' regatta 2018 with whom 'Janty' is registered and she is apparently well known on the East Coast which is where I bought her from in 2015. She is rigged for single handed sailing and, in my view, she is a safe and steady craft. Surveyed in 2015 by J. Kershaw."
